about

"An updated version of classic rock with a southern flavor and very soulful vocals." - Motor City Blog

This is a rock record I made with the spectacularly talented production duo, The Brooklyn Sheiks, at Casa Nova Studios (in Brooklyn...of course).

I started playing guitar because of bands like Led Zeppelin, Cream and classic rock in general and I always wanted to make my own version of a classic rock record, but with a heavier emphasis on the beat as a kind of psychedelic modernizing. As Chicago's Music Per Diem blog described it:

"I grew up engulfed in classic rock, and I think The Beat Hounds wrote some really great music that could easily slip into a classic rock station's playlist and no one would complain. The music was written by front-man Matt Lenny during a four-month recovery from a car crash suffered while on tour with Chicago's Oh My God. Props to you, Matt, for making some delicious rock and roll out of a shitty situation."

Thanks to that accident, I had some money to spend in the studio (along with a broken leg), so we were able to really mess around with arrangements and get some killer sounds. The actual takes were done quickly and, in some cases, all live in the same room.

Even cooler, I was able to press super deluxe 180 gram vinyl, thereby fulfilling a lifelong dream to hear my own music properly on a delicious, spinning, analog platter of sonic amazingness. (Seriously...it was CRAZY to hear the difference after spending so many months scrutinizing the album in such detail. That was a great moment.)

Hope you dig it!
